The Artists Hand Gallery Presents: Final Spring Art Workshops for Kids

The Artists Hand Gallery will be closing its Workshop season in 2011 at IUP in the art building, Sprowls Hall, on the second floor, room 213. Classes will be held 6 Saturdays in April & May, beginning 4/2 through 4/16 & 4/30 through 5/14. Class times are as follows; K to 2nd will be from 10 Am to 11:30 Am, and grades 3 to 5 & grades 6 to 8 will be from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM.

Grades K through 2 will work with Xiaojie Zheng and Sandy Trimble. In April the children will explore drawing and understand the basic shapes with Xiaojie. They will explore composition and color and how to combine them in art work. After Easter they will learn to make felt from wool with Sandy, creating a small wall hanging.

Grades 3 through 5 will work with Xiaojie Zheng Roxanne Hotaling and several art education majors. They will use their knowledge of shapes to draw still lifes, practicing shading and use of color with Xiaojie. With Roxanne and Co. they will focus on the different techniques of acrylic painting. Each Saturday, students will be exploring a technique through a different historical style in acrylic paint. Students will be able to focus on the theme, "WHO Are You?", while learning the overall processes.

Grades 6 through 7 will work with Ali Crouse and Jarret Wasko. Ali will lead a screen printing class using small squares of silkscreen and polyurethane to resist areas of rolled ink on T-shirts, as well as other fabrics. Jarret will follow up with a class on the self portrait.

Pre-registration is required. Pre-registration helps with planning for materials and space.
